The concept
No, it is not a math book (although it really looks like one!).
This book is a collection of words and phrases which offers, for the first time in the history of
mankind, a thematic approach for students who wish to learn Hungarian as a foreign
language.
It present Hungarian vocabulary around 19 topics taken from everyday life and language
exam topic lists.
In order to help you distinguish between common and less frequently used vocabulary, the
most important words are highlighted in bold. Learning them will enable you
to have basic conversations about a variety of everyday topics. The selected vocabulary can
also be used in preparation for the B1 (threshold) level of the Common European Framework
of Reference for Languages.
Who do we recommend this book to?
Well, of course to everyone reading this page! Seriously: This collection can serve as an
effective resource for students who wish to take the option "Hungarian as a foreign language"
for their high school final exam, intend to take a language exam in Hungarian, and for those
who would "simply" like to expand their vocabulary systematically.
It can be used from beginner to advanced levels in both group lessons and self-study
settings.
The structure
In order to facilitate the use of the book, all chapters have the same structure.
Part A (Useful words) presents topic-related vocabulary lists. The lists are divided into
smaller units, and the most important words are written in bold to make learning easier.
Part A also contains diagrams that show the connection between words derived from the
same stem and offer visual support for memorizing them.
The texts in the gray boxes are written in English. They contain cultural information and
additional linguistic information.
Part B (Useful sentences) presents topic-related phrases and expressions taken from
everyday language.
