Communication-Centred Activities
|
|
These worksheets are destinated for the
beginner's and intermediate
levels. They are
communication-centred and do not necessarily
involve a teacher of Hungarian. You can
work through these activities with your
friend(s) or with a native Hungarian speaker.
These worksheets are not included in our section Worksheets and Vocabulary Lists by Themes that provides thematically organised materials for self-study but they can complete these latter with interactive, communication-oriented activities.

These activities will help you
- practise authentic
Hungarian dialogues
- find out more about other
people in Hungarian
- discuss various topics in
Hungarian
Each activity contains
instructions, model dialogues
and useful vocabulary.
The concept
In our everyday conversations,
we rarely use a very extensive
and sophisticated range of
vocabulary; we tend to share
our ideas and opinions in
simple words and structures.
The activities here
presented are based on this
experience; they allow you to
build simple but authentic
discussions on various topics.
How to use the worksheets
Most activities work best in
small groups. If there are
more than three of you, you
might want to do the chosen
exercise(s) in groups of two
and follow this up by sharing
the most interesting
information with the entire
group. If you are doing a
Hungarian course, you might
want to suggest these
worksheets to your teacher.
About the structure of the worksheets
The collection contains a constantly increasing number
of activities. On the
first page of each of them,
you will find the instructions
(instrukciók) and the learning
outcomes (célok) of each
exercise. The learning
outcomes are divided in two
parts: grammar (nyelvtan) and
communicative purposes
(kommunikáció), so that you
can easily decide which
activity would be most useful
to do, depending on your
progress and the stage of the
course.
The second page is the actual
worksheet (munkalap). This is
the sheet you will use to take
notes on while doing the
activity.
Each worksheet offers one or
more model dialogues (modelldialógus),
with examples of possible
questions and answers. You
can choose whether to follow
the model as closely as
possible or simply use it as a
'springboard' for spontaneous
conversation. Following the
dialogue model helps you build
short but correct and
authentic dialogues; extending
and changing it will allow you
to explore the topics in
greater depth, whilst perhaps
risking less accurate use of
the language.
Many of the worksheets contain
similar vocabulary. The
difficulties you might
experience at the beginning
will therefore disappear
through regular practice and
as the language becomes more
familiar. (Nevertheless, it is
a good idea to always have a
good grammar book and a
dictionary with you.)
About the order of the worksheets
The numbering of the
worksheets is arbitrary and by
no means corresponds to the
order in which you should work
with them. (They are organised
according to their level of
difficulty - a fairly
subjective notion.) Feel free
to use them in any order you
choose.
Please read the
instructions of the chosen
exercise(s) before you meet
your fellow students as some
of them will need a little
preparation. (You might need
to bring along pictures or cut
up cards or prepare a short
presentation in advance.)
We hope this collection will help
you learn Hungarian in an enjoyable and effective way.
